Check out the contacts for the headlight in your start switch. They may need a cleaning and tweaking to make better contact. I would start here, cheap easy fixes first. You may also want to check the wires coming from the stator, make sure all is good with those.

The lower portion of the right switch has a spring loaded contact that shuts the headlight off and activates the starter when the button is pushed in. The spring will sometimes not push up hard enough to contact either terminal and therefore the headlight and starter quit. You can open the switch and fix it.
