On page 203 of the Canon 6D manual I read "Under the [3] tab, if you set [Wi-Fi] to [Enable], you cannot shoot movies. Before shooting movies, set [Wi-Fi] to [Disable]". A similar statement can be found on page 251 of the 70D manual. Today I went to a Canon showroom and experimented with the 70D; they had no 6D to play with, though.
Mixed results 6D. Once, I got a solid connection and took a series of 10 shots. Then, I had trouble reconnecting. On the 6d though, you can wifi to your laptop and run EOS Utility and use that for a timer release. See this quick guide to use EOS Utility. If you don't have a wifi router avail, you can make an ad-hoc network to your laptop and have the 6d connect to it. The 6d DOES take longer to connect to an ad-hoc network than a router though.
